론 클라크 골드코스트 시의회 의장은 공연을 관람하고 난 뒤, 민예총 고흥지부 예술단원으로 참가한 22명 전원에게 골드코스트시 명예시민권을 부여했다.
골드코스트시에서 약 10년 전부터 여행업을 하고 있는 김광연씨는 민예총 회원들이 골드코스트시 명예시민권을 받았다는 사실을 전해듣고 "골드코스트시 역사상 극히 이례적인 일로 지금까지 이런 일이 없었다"면서 "민예총은 물론 호주 한인회도 큰 경사"라고 말했다.
이 행사에 이어 골드코스트시 한인회 김치은 회장, 호주소수민족연합 메리언 빌힘 회장 등이 참석한 가운데 민예총 고흥지부와 호주소수민족연합 대표가 만나 긴밀한 유대와 협력 관계를 유지하자는 뜻으로 자매결연을 맺었다.
장효문 민예총 고흥 지부장은 이 자리에서 "호주소수민족연합회와 자매결연을 맺게 된 것에 대해 큰 보람을 느낀다"면서 "호주 골드코스트시에서 대한민국 문화예술 단체로는 처음으로 명예시민권을 받는 영광을 누리게 됐다"고 말했다.
자매결연식이 끝나고 호주소수민족연합 메리언 빌힘 회장이 안내하는 '파크랜드 골드스타' 공연장으로 자리를 모두 옮겨 오후 1시부터 공연을 시작했다.

이번 '파크랜드 골드스타' 공연은 민예총 고흥지부 예술단의 기량을 높이 평가한 골드코스트시가 특별히 기획한 프로그램이었다. 이날 공연은 '복고'춤을 비롯해 '태평무' '화관무' 등의 공연이 이어졌다.

Korean dancers and musicians perform at Council Meeting
Tuesday, 24 August 2004 - The GOHEUNG CHAPTER OF THE KOREAN PEOPLE'S ARTIST FEDERATION from the Republic of Korea (South Korea) is visiting Gold Coast City this week.
Its members are the leading professional performers of Korean dance and music of the Goheung City, Jeollanam-do region. The Korean People's Artist Federation is the peak body in the Republic for the preservation of traditional Korean culture and takes responsibility both for cultural policy and the interests of Korean artists.
The Jeollanam-do region is rich in Korean folk custom, including the traditional Pansori, or Korean opera.
The Goheung Chapter dancers and musicians are travelling to Australia at the request of the Gold Coast Ethnic Communities Association and are performing only on the Gold Coast.
They will be performing contemporary and traditional Korean music (samulnori) and dance at the Gold Coast Show this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (August 26, 27 and 28).
They also will be presenting a special concert on Friday (August 27) at 7pm at Albert Waterways Community Hall at a performance organized by the Gold Coast Korean Society.
Through their visit and these performances, the musicians and dancers wish to promote Korean culture to the Australian community and to learn about Australian culture in exchange.
The group will be performing at 9am Thursday August 26 at the Gold Coast City Council Chambers at the start of the Council Coordination meeting.
