Gender Equality Charter to Be Adopted
남녀 평등 헌장 제정하기로
*Concrete principles and legal grounds promoting gender equality will be introduced as early as possible as part of efforts to *eliminate *discrimination against women in every sector of Korean society.

한국 사회의 모든 부분에 만연되어 있는 여성 차별을 근절하려는 노력의 일환으로, 남녀 평등을 장려하는 구체적 원칙과 법적 기반이 빠른 시일내에 도입될 것으로 보인다.
The Gender Equality Ministry said yesterday that it would adopt the ``21st Century Gender Equality Charter,'' which is designed to guarantee equal opportunities between sexes.
여성부는 어제 남녀의 기회 균등을 보장하기 위해 마련된 "21세기 남녀 평등 헌장"을 채택할 것이라고 발표했다.
The project was *revealed during the ministry's report to President Kim Dae- jung on its policy measures delivered by its head Han Myoung-sook.

한명숙 여성부 장관은 김대중 대통령에게 업무 계획을 보고하면서 이같은 내용을 발표했다.
``It is *imperative to establish a practical charter to present
principles of gender equality, as many people are *confused about *vague *criteria on the issue,'' said Minister Han.

"많은 사람들이 성평등에 대한 모호한 기준으로 혼돈스러워 하기 때문에 남녀 평등의 원칙을 제시하는 실천적 헌장을 마련하는 일은 필수적인 것이다"라고 한 장관은 언급했다.
