Carter to Visit Seoul for Int'l Homeless Plan
카터 전 미대통령, 국제 노숙자 플랜 위해 한국 방문할 듯
Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter will visit Seoul in August to kick off an international event to build houses for the homeless, a spokesman for Habitat for Humanity International said yesterday.
지미 카터 전 미국 대통령이 노숙자들의 집을 짓기 위한 국제적 행사를 진행하기 위해 오는 8월 서울을 방문하게 될 것이라고 국제 해비타트 대변인이 어제 언급했다.
Habitat also invited North Korea to join "World Leaders Build" for which Carter has personally invited more than 50 heads of state and government to participate in building Habitat houses in their *respective countries during the Aug. 5-11 event, the spokesman said.

해비타트는 또한 카터 전 대통령이 8월 5일부터 11일까지 각자의 나라에서 거주지 건설에 참가할 수 있도록 개인적으로 50개국 이상의 정상들을 초대한 "세계 정상들이 짓는 집"행사에 북한도 동참하라고 초청했다고 대변인이 언급했다.
"Habitat for Humanity International has proposed that North Korea take part in the event," the spokesman said. "There is a possibility that Carter will visit North Korea again."
"국제 해비타트는 북한도 이 행사에 동참할 것을 제안했다"고 대변인은 말했다. "카터 전 대통령이 북한을 다시 방문할 가능성도 있다."
"We understand that Carter has personally *contacted North Korea," the spokesman said. "The possibility is that North Korea will accept Carter's proposal for the event because he met (late North Korean leader) Kim Il- sung and his son Jong-il, and North Korean leader Kim Jong-il will have finished his visit to Seoul by then."

8월 5일부터 11일까지 김대중 대통령과 커터 전 대통령, 그리고 9000명이 넘는 국내외 자원 봉사자들은 아산, 태백, 진주, 대구, 경기도 등에서 주택 120채 짓기 사업에 착수하게 되는 한편, 세계적으로 알려진 주택 건설의 필요성에 대한 대중의 인식을 높이기 위해 노력할 것이다.
Habitat for Humanity International, which has over 2,000 branches in 76 countries, has built over 100,000 houses across the world thus far.
전세계 76개국에서 2000여개가 넘는 지회가 있는 국제 해비타트는 이제까지 전 세계에 걸쳐 10만채가 넘는 주택을 지어 왔다.
Habitat's Korea branch has built 78 houses in the country and 130 houses in the Philippines.
한국 해비타트는 그동안 국내에서 78채, 필리핀에서는 130채의 주택을 지었다.
