Four Biz Groups *Penalized for Unfair In-House Trading

4대 그룹, 부당 내부 거래로 과징금 부과
The nation's four major conglomerates, or chaebol - Hyundai, Samsung, LG and SK- engaged in inappropriate in-house stock trading worth 2.5 trillion won (about $2.98 bil.) in total.
국내 4대 재벌 기업 - 현대, 삼성, LG, SK - 가 총 2조5천억원(29억8천불) 상당의 부당 내부 주식 거래를 한 것으로 밝혀졌다.
The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has imposed a total of 44.19 billion won in *fines against the conglomerates in this regard. But the four groups said they will go to the court to challenge the ruling.

공정 거래 위원회는 이와 관련하여 이 재벌사들에게 총 441억9000만원의 벌금을 부과했다. 그러나 4대 기업들은 이 결정에 반발하고 법원에 이의신청을 제기하겠다는 입장을 밝혔다.
Revealing the outcome of its investigation into the alleged *shady financial trading, the FTC also said it has decided to file suits against four enterprises - Hyundai Heavy Industries, Samsung Card, LG International and SK Global, for having continually extended financial assistance to their *subsidiaries through unlawful methods.

비정상적인 금융 거래에 관한 조사 결과를 발표하면서 공정위는 또한
계열사들에게 불법으로 자금 지원을 계속해 온 4대 기업-현대 중공업, 삼성카드, LG 상사, SK 글로벌 -에 대해 소송을 제기하기로 결정했다고 언급했다.
In particular, Hyundai was found to have sold securities to Hyundai Asan Corp. chairman Mong-hun on favorable terms to enable him to garner 6.387 billion won in illegal capital gains while Samsung followed the suit of Hyundai, letting Samsung chairman Lee Kun-hee's son, Jae-yong, earn 300 million won in inappropriate interests.
특히 현대는 현대 아산의 정몽헌 회장에게 유리한 조건으로 주식을
매각하여 불법 자본금 63억8700만원을 얻게 했으며 삼성은 현대와
마찬가지 방법으로 이건희 회장의 아들인 재용 씨에게 3억원의 불법 이득을 취하게 한 사실이 드러났다.
LG also took similar steps, selling stocks to chairman Koo Bon-moo's relatives at low prices, enabling them to see 14.61 billion won in profits.
LG 역시 비슷한 방법으로 구본무 회장의 친지들에게 시세보다 낮은
가격으로 주식을 매각하여 140억6천1백만원의 이익을 챙기게 했다.
The FTC will 8forward the probe result to the National Tax Service and the Financial Supervisory Service soon so that they can *implement appropriate *countermeasures.

공정위는 조사 결과를 국세청에 보내 금융 감독원으로 하여금 곧 적절한 조치를 취하게 할 방침이다.
